Do you have itchy feet? See a podiatrist | Sutherland Podiatry Centre

Obviously, at Sutherland Podiatry Centre, we believe that most foot issues are best solved by seeing a podiatrist. We have years’ worth of experience treating thousands of patients, and even before we had that, we weren’t exactly twiddling our thumbs for four or more years of university!

However, itchy feet are a particular concern to us, because while they’re a problem that might at first seem easily manageable and relatively benign, that is often not the case.

When I first sat down to write this blog post, I wasn’t even sure what I could write here that would give enough information about what causes itchy feet, while also not turning this post into a boring, 10,000-word doctorate thesis. While honesty is the best policy, it can also be said that brevity is the soul of wit, so here’s an abridged version of the truth: many, many different things can cause your feet to itch. It’s a very common problem, and a rather generic symptom of a range of different issues. These can include:

  • Fungal infections, e.g. Athlete’s foot (AKA tinea)
  • Skin conditions, e.g. dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, allergies
  • Parasites, e.g. hookworms, ticks, scabies
  • Chilblains (which I wrote about in a previous blog post), particularly at this time of year
  • Nerve problems, e.g. peripheral neuropathy, diabetes
  • Cancer, e.g. lymphoma

I couldn’t possibly do you or a loved one justice with an armchair diagnosis in this case. Neither can you or Dr Google, so close down that WebMD tab right away!

So, what can you do then? See a podiatrist! We’re all experienced in treating the diverse range of causes that itchy feet can be attributed to. We’re also not afraid to admit when our expertise isn’t enough to manage complex problems, and will work with other specialists (e.g. dermatologists) if necessary to treat whatever is ailing your feet. So, don’t just sit there and scratch helplessly until your feet bleed! Call 9542 3491 and book an appointment with one of us today, so you don’t have to keep suffering from itchy feet.
